Example:  Overshooting and Releveling

The graph at left shows accelerations and door activity in an elevator that is overshooting the landing, and releveling as the door opens.

Blue bars - acceleration / deceleration of duration greater than 300 msec. Height of bar is maximum acceleration.

Red bars - acceleration / deceleration of duration less than 300 msec.

Yellow rectilinear hatching - door opening.

Solid yellow - door open.

Yellow diagonal hatching - door closing.

In the first trip, the car accelerates down, travels at constant speed, then decelerates to a stop. The door begins to open, and the car moves briefly upward as it relevels.

In the second trip, the car accelerates up, travels at constant speed, then decelerates to a stop. The door begins to open, and the car moves briefly downward as it relevels.
