Example:  Detecting Component Failure
 
The graph shows the current going to an elevator car for lights, fan, phone, etc. (this does not include the current going to the motor or controller). If we look at the car current over time, we can determine if there is a problem. The graph shows the current over a period of about 24 hours.

The normal current to the car was 2 Amps. But it jumped to 6 Amps and then dropped to 1.5 Amps. The fan motor had seized and then burned out. By setting the limits for the car current to expect the 2 Amps draw, a warning email could be issued when the limit was exceeded, to indicate a problem.
